Build Community with Us!

Caring Friends

If you enjoy cooking for others, serving the homeless, writing notes or knitting, you might enjoy taking part in this ministry.

Volunteers collaboratively choose what work to engage in.

Past projects have included:

• knitting afghans for folks experiencing loss

• providing meals for New Gardeners recuperating from illness

• writing notes of support, making calls, and visiting people in the community grieving or recovering from illness

This program is coordinated by the Meeting on Ministry & Counsel. Contact the office to learn more.

Meals for the
Unhoused

This ministry occurs on the first Tuesday of each month.

Every month, New Garden volunteers provide a nourishing meal to feed Greensboro’s homeless community.

Food is usually prepared at the volunteers’ homes, then transported to the kitchen in Fellowship Hall. From there, volunteers deliver the food to Greensboro Urban Ministry’s downtown headquarters, where it is served to clients in the dining hall.

After School Tutoring

ECAR (Every Child A Refuge) at Guilford College launched a vibrant afterschool tutoring program for refugee children in partnership with New Garden Friends Meeting and the New Arrivals Institute. Each week, 15 children gather in Room #10 at New Garden for homework help, English learning, and joyful connection with volunteers from local colleges and the wider community.

The program has quickly become a hub of laughter, learning, and friendship. Please contact Rhiannon Kelly rkelly1@guilford.edu for more details on how to get involved.

Healing Prayer Group

Meeting at retirement village Friends Homes Guilford, we gather weekly as Friends to hold others in the Light.

In addition to lifting up the cares and concerns of our Friends, participants write cards of support and condolences to those in the New Garden community who are facing illness or loss.
